Membership 2010

As the New Year quickly unfolds we would like to remind you that our commitment to helping children and their parents understand the fragile ecosystem surrounding our community is still strong and ongoing.

We need your continued participation and donation to extend our efforts.

Your minimum $25 membership helps fund what we are able to give 5th grade classes for their Earth-Science programs and other local programs.  So, please click here to download the membership form and renew your membership with the Earth/Ocean Society while you are here.

Also, take a look at all the great things that happened this past year. With a very special thanks to Board member Bob Fairbanks, click here to see a photo gallery of Earth/Ocean Society events in 2009:

Annual Meeting:
Our Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, February 22nd, at 6PM at the Ocean Institute so we can vote on the slate of officers and board members along with letting our members in on all our upcoming activities.  There will be guest speakers and refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP to Judy at Brandmeier@cox.net or (949) 291-0990.
Plenty of Ways to Volunteer:
Here are some of the areas where we could use your help:

Smokers Outposts Coordinators – take a survey of outpost’s already in place and identify which ones need repair or replacement and what areas of the city could benefit from a new container being installed.  Also need to resource what types of containers are available for purchase.

Kids on the Water – Work with RH Dana Elementary School to support their desire to participate in the Ocean Institute’s Sea Explorer Catalina Trip and other activities related to ecology.

Neighborhood Clean Up Day – This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, April 17th at La Plaza where we will once again send groups of kids out to pick up trash in the Lantern Village and Harbor areas.  Plan on joining in the effort and get free pizza afterwards!
Upcoming Programs:
Here’s some new activities we’re working on for this year:

ZeroTrash Dana Point — EOS is one of the founding sponsors of this new group which will start picking up trash on the first Saturday of each month, beginning Feb. 6th, at 10am at Girl in the Curl Surf Shop at 34116 Pacific Coast Highway.  More details here: http://ZeroTrashDanaPoint.org

Website – Please be sure to check out our new blog entries and current events here on the website, and it would be especially helpful if you would create an account and log-in here on the website, which will allow us to keep you informed on a regular basis of our activities.

School Emergency Kits  —  There is a need to replace existing outdated kits that each child has in the classrooms.  We’re starting an effort to get sponsors for each classroom and will have more details soon.

Best wishes,
Sandie Howard,
President

Membership Director
